MUNCIE, Ind. — A little more than two years since raising $20.6 million through the Cardinal Commitment campaign, Ball State is closing in on completing all the projects it funded.

Though we already knew the planned expenses of these last two buildings, the Board of Trustees approved finalized architectural renderings on Friday. The Earl Yestingsmeier Golf Center, which is scheduled to be completed between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, will be constructed along Bethel Avenue on the north side of campus, just southeast of Scheumann Stadium and next to Muncie Community School's Northside Middle School.

“The indoor golf facility is a dream come true,” women’s golf coach Katherine Mowat said in a press release. “I am so thankful and appreciative of so many people who played a part in getting to this point – campaign directors, donors, athletic directors, architects and Ball State staff.

"This building will help our student-athletes reach new levels with their golf games, as we will have access to the best technology the game has to offer and a place to practice any day of the year, regardless of weather.”

[Athletic director Mark Sandy recently discussed Ball State's long-term goals in the department, including prioritizing an indoor football facility]

The new facility will be approximately 6,400 square feet and feature two indoor hitting bays for four players, a hitting simulator bay, 2,200 square foot putting and chipping area, locker and restroom facilities for the women’s and men’s golf teams, a meeting room, team lounge area and club repair room.

Don Shondell Practice Center

The Don Shondell Practice Center will be attached to the north side of Worthen Arena.

The final project to be completed as a part of Cardinal Commitment, in addition to the Ron Venderly Football Complex and several improvements to the Ballpark Complex off Bethel, is a 19,000 square foot addition to Worthen Arena.

The $6.4 million space will include two full-size basketball courts, meeting rooms and study rooms for men's and women's volleyball and basketball student-athletes. This rendering shows how the 25-foot-tall building will measure up on the north side of Worthen. There will not be an entrance on the exterior, as players and coaches will access it through the arena.

One possible change is the lack of any sign or branding on the brick exterior in the rendering, though there aren't plans for it now.
