MUNCIE, Ind. — There will be plenty of tricks and puppy treats when Muncie Animal Care & Services' "Halloween Pawty" gets underway at noon Saturday, Oct. 29.

The party will take place at the shelter's new location, 901 W. Riggin Road, and will also include a Halloween pet parade and costume contest fundraiser.

All proceeds will go toward furnishing the shelter's new Education Center.

"This will be the first fundraiser that Friends to the MACS have done since the shelter has moved to its new location," said Lesley Scott-Gillilans, president of Friends to the MACS. "While the fundraiser is our first reason for doing this, we are also wanting to raise awareness of MACS and its new location, to let people know about our new name and to recruit new volunteers to join our group."

The pet parade will kick off at 1 p.m. as well as three costume contests:

  • Kid and doggy costume contest, (kids under 12)
  • Doggy-only contest
  • Family costume contest (at least one adult and one dog, child optional)

Entry fee is $2 per dog entry for costume contests and judges are Phil Peckinpaugh, director at MACS, and Sheriff Ray Dudley.

Costume contest prizes include gift bags filled with all types of goodies for people and pets, such as pet toys, treats and gift cards donated by businesses and individuals.

Local photographer Amanda Kishel of Kishel Photography will be on hand to take professional photographs of people with their pets.

Proceeds from the photos will go toward the fundraiser.
