New Castle man sentenced in daughter’s stabbing
NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man who maintained he had accidentally stabbed his daughter during a family disagreement has been placed on probation for a year.
Robert L. Copley, 66, had pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness, which under the terms of a plea agreement was reduced from felony to misdemeanor status.
He was arrested last October after his 44-year-old daughter was stabbed in the lower torso with a kitchen knife.
Authorities said the victim — who asked that her father not be prosecuted — had tried to intervene as Copley confronted her son during a dispute involving antifreeze.
Henry Circuit Court 1 Judge Mary Willis in recent days imposed the one-year suspended sentence. A charge of battery with a deadly weapon was dismissed.
