NEW CASTLE – The trial of an Indianapolis man charged with murder in Henry County has been postponed.

Edward H. Thompson, 35, had been set to stand trial Feb. 9 in Henry Circuit Court 1. Judge Mary Willis last week postponed the trial, scheduling a hearing on evidence in the case for that February date. A new trial date has not been set.

Thompson is accused of killing Zackery Soots, 22, also of Indianapolis, in April.

The victim’s body was found April 13 in Montgomery Creek, along Grant City Road in western Henry County. An autopsy later revealed he had been shot at least three times with a shotgun.

Willis has taken under advisement a request to set bond for Thompson, who has been held since May in the Henry County jail.

An alleged witness to the slaying — Jessica Jo Duncan, 28, New Whiteland — is charged with assisting a criminal.
