Volleyball sectional roundup: Central upends Delta

Central held on for a 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23 volleyball victory against Delta in the Class 3A Delta Sectional opening round on Thursday. The matchup pitted two top-five teams against each other with Delta ranked No. 3 and Central ranked fifth.

After Delta won the third set, the Eagles then utilized a 10-point run to tie the fourth set at 21. But Central was able to survive for the win, which ended on an Allyson Young ace.

Micah Leavell had 21 kills to lead Central offensively, and teammate Nikki Marshall had 18 digs.

Camryn Campbell had 13 kills to pace Delta, and Teaghan Dishman and Kaylee Nichols each had 16 digs for the Eagles.

Class A Cowan Sectional

Class A No. 1 Wes-Del stopped Daleville 25-17, 25-20, 25-14. Alysa Sutton had 10 kills for the Warriors. Lindsay Ingenito had eight kills for the Broncos.

Wes-Del will play host Cowan in the semifinals on Saturday. The Blackhawks beat Monroe Central 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.

Diana Campbell had 12 kills for Cowan. Katarina DiBiasio had 17 kills for Monroe Central.

Class 4A Greenfield-Central Sectional

No. 8 Yorktown defeated Pendleton Heights in straight sets, 25-12, 25-23, 25-23.

Karli Acree led the Tigers with four aces. Kendall Murr and Carson Malapit each had six kills. Mimi Arrington had eight digs.
