NEW CASTLE -- 2015 ended with tragedy in Henry County, where a woman was fatally injured when the golf cart she was riding on overturned.

Authorities were called to the scene of the accident, in the 8300 block of East Henry County Road 200-S, about 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

Henry County Coroner Steve Hacker identified the victim as Shawne Land, 51.

According to the Henry County Sheriff's Department, the golf cart, driven by a man whose name was not immediately released, left the county road, traveled down a slight embankment and overturned.

Land was trapped underneath the vehicle. She was pronounced dead soon after arrival at Henry County Hospital.

The man was taken to the hospital for an examination, and for a blood draw, standard procedure in accidents involving serious injury or death. Investigators said they did believe alcohol was a factor. He was released pending further investigation.

Authorities confirmed both Land and the golf cart's operator were Henry County residents.

The accident took place about four miles west of Hagerstown and near the location of the annual Farmers Pike Festival.
