Trial set in cop impersonation case
A man accused of holding four teens against their will while posing as a police officer has received a Sept. 2 trial date in Randolph Circuit Court.
Kory William Tracy, 40, 613 W. Randolph County Road 400-S, is charged with impersonation of a public servant and four counts of criminal confinement.
Authorities say four teenagers on their way home from a “Sweetheart Dance” in Winchester on Feb. 8 stopped in a Modoc parking lot, allowing their sleepy driver to briefly nap. They were then allegedly approached by Tracy, wearing a shirt with a sewn-on badge and patches on each arm, and holding a handgun.
He told the teens to remain there and “wait for (police).” He also allegedly falsely claimed to a sheriff’s deputy sent to the scene that he was a reserve Muncie police officer.
Tracy’s trial was scheduled in recent days after his attorney, Mike Quirk of Muncie, waived his client’s right to an initial hearing.
