  • Angela Riley was sentenced to 912 days in prison for biting a police officer on the lower leg.
  • Riley in 2008 was convicted of spitting on two police officers.

NEW CASTLE – A New Castle woman who bit a police officer on the lower calf has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Angela D. Riley, 43, had pleaded guilty to battery against a public safety officer. The plea was part of an agareement calling for five other charges — battery by bodily waste, possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement — to be dismissed.

Riley — convicted in 2008 of spitting on two city police officers — was arrested last September after police were called to a disturbance outside the Kroger store at 120 E. Memorial Drive.

The bite wound inflicted by Riley required hospital treatment. She caused further concern for her victim when she told Henry County jail officials she had tested positive for hepatitis, a blood-borne disease that can cause life-threatening liver ailments.

Henry Circuit Court 2 Judge Kit Crane recently imposed Riley’s 912-day sentence. She was given credit for 119 days already served in the county jail.

The judge said he would recommend that Riley be given the opportunity to participate in an intensive treatment program for substance abusers during her incarceration.
